Lilongwe

Overall Score

2.1

West of the Malawi River in the eastern part of the African continent, the city of Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, has sprung up. It is not next door to the borders with Georgia and Mozambique. The urban area covers the coastline of the natural water area of Liligewa, which thaws rapidly from May to October, due to the lack of rain.

The city area and its environs are in an equatorial climate zone. November is considered the hottest month. Sometimes there are freezing temperatures from June through August. A distinctive feature of the city is its area of evergreen forests. The Nature Reserve, located in Leeligvie, is home to many species of birds. There are hyenas, leopards and tigers. Crocodiles swim in the waters of the Lingaza River, which flows through the park area. As a result of high birth rates and rapid growth, about half of the population is under 15 years of age. The business sector uses English and Cheshiva. Most of the language used is Tumaca and Nyanja.

While Lilongwe and Islam are practiced in Lilongwe and to a lesser extent, some of the townspeople are still Christian believers in Latin. Because Malawi is an agricultural country, its capital has agricultural and food processing plants. Fishing is being done on rivers and lakes. The art of craftsmanship is also developed – wood carving and basketry. ×The city is crisscrossed by numerous roads and rail lines linking Lilongwe with other cities in the country. It was founded by Anglians in the early part of the 20th century in 1902. The capital of the country was Zuema until 1975. In recent years, the citys educational sector has developed. The number of new buildings in the citys streets has increased. In a short period of time, the city has been filled with modern houses. The central part of the city is mostly occupied by administrative buildings, in particular government offices, ministries, and company offices.
