Ashkhabad – the capital of Turkmenistan, the largest economic, political, scientific and cultural center of the country. Ashgabat is located in the Ahal region, south of Turkmenistan, not far from the Iranian border. To the north of the city is the Kara Kumma Mountains, and to the south, the Kopetdag Mountains. Aschabad – a city of rich and varied architecture, often called the white city because most of the citys buildings are faced with white marble. Although the city was badly damaged by the 1948 earthquake, it was subsequently completely rebuilt.

The main features of Ashgabat include the Etrogrulezha Chapel with its four minarets and the great gold plinth, The Righteous Church of St. Alexander Nevsky, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, and the State Library and Museum buildings.
Also a must-see when visiting Ashgabat is the Eastern Bazaar &nash; a typical Oriental market with all its attendant atrium, the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkey, the Museum of the Carpet Museum and the Ashgabat Circus.

The sites of Ashgabat are particularly interesting for their archaeological attractions. Not far from the city, in a westerly direction, are the ancient sites of the ancient capital of the mighty kingdom of Armenia – the city of Nisa, founded by King Mithridates I, inscribed in the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Here one can see the ruins of two ancient cathedrals, the preserved cabinet in the church and the halls, the sacristy, as well as the temples and tombs of the Archaquid dynasty. And to the east of the city, the ancient fortress of Annunau and the ancient chapel are among the ruins of the ancient city in the eastern part of the city.
