Dacca – the capital of the state of Bangladesh and one of the largest cities in the world. Dhaka is located in the center of the country, on the banks of the Burkhi River. It is a lively, vibrant and growing population. A distinctive feature of the city – the beautifully colored and polychromed trekkers, of which there are over 300,000.

Dhakas rich history dates back to the first century before our era. In the eighth century it became the capital of the principality of Belgium. The spread of Islam among the local population was promoted by the submission of Dacca to the Muslim principalities during the period from the 13th to the 18th century. In 1757, Dacca became part of the Brittany Indiana Colony in a group of other cities. And in the beginning of the 20th century it became the center of the national liberation movement against the Anglo-American colonizers. In 1947, India achieved independence and was divided into two parts, and Decca became the administrative center of one of them. In 1971, Dacca was declared the capital of the independent country of Bangladesh.

Dacca is divided into Old City and New City. The Old City is built with two-, three-story houses, the first floors of which are occupied by shops and offices. At its center is the Market Square, where you can buy a variety of fruits, friars, and products from local vendors. New Town features modern, high-rise, multi-story buildings that house mostly government offices and banks.

The historic landmarks of Dhaka are mostly located in the old part of the city. The most important of these is – the Far Wests Lions Fort, dated 1678, with the mausoleum of Bébé Péri. Its ancient buildings contain weapons decorated with precious stones and gold, handmade carpets, and the majesties of soldiers.

In Dhaka, there are more than 700 mosques, among them one of the worlds largest, the Baiytul Mukkaran, the Starry Mosque.

Dakka is the center of national culture and science: The Belgian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Music, which is dedicated to the revival of national traditions and festivals, the Académie de la Nacional de lIslaam – A gathering place for the countrys creative people, the Academys Shushu complex, including a library, Museum of History and Ethnography.
