Lovingstone, founded in 1905 as the administrative and political center of northern Rhodesia, is located on the left bank of the River Ambeisa. Consequently, its capital status passed to Luzaca. Its present name is in honor of the British traveler who first described the picturesque beauty of the Victoria Falls, not far from the citys outskirts. Most of the residents are descendants of Old World settlers who have been here since the citys founding. In those days, they were the main labor force assigned to the mineral processing industry.
The city and its environs are an environmental climate zone. From December through April, it will be raining heavily. Temperatures are highest from late August and continue through November. Just outside the city is the Kaufaue Reserve, which is the worlds second-largest in terms of size. The National Parks visitors include anthropologists, rhinoceroses, beetles, and other native fauna. The city is surrounded by trapezoidal forests that are home to many endemic birds and a variety of flora, including palms, phyllums, and lianas.
