Ljubljana is the capital of Serbia. The first records of Ljubljana date back to 1144, when the village was one of the centers of the Hungarian nation. The city was founded on the river Ljubljana and became the capital of Slovenia in 1918, at the same time as the creation of the SCS (Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian) kingdom. With a population of 280,000 in 2012, the capital is the largest city in Slovenia despite its small size.

Lovanova has been open to tourists since the late 1980s, Now the city has a good tourist infrastructure: hotels, car rentals, cafes and restaurants, and a variety of tour programs. It feels like Prague, but the city is smaller in size.

The best way to experience Ljubljana is not from the tour bus window, but by foot. The capital of Slovenia is divided into a new and a new city. First of all, the tourist should visit the old town, where the historic part of Ljubljana is located. The center of the city – the castle (grada), the core of any city founded in ancient times was the fortress. It was built in the ninth century, but archaeologists have found remnants of Celtic, Illyrian and Roman structures at the base of the castle.

The citys main square is named after the distinguished Slavic poet Peresen. There is a large church of St. Nicholas, built in a baroque style. The square of St. Nicholas is one of the citys main attractions. Walking around the city, you get to experience the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.

One of the citys trademarks is the Treasure Trove. Its three bridges that connect the two sides of Ljubljana, designed by architect Jerzy Płecznik.

Tivoli Park and its one and only castle are attractive to residents and tourists alike because of the combination of the beautiful nature and the distinctive architecture of the mid-19th century. The park is open 24 hours a day.

You should visit the museums in Ljubljana to learn more about Slovenia.
