Maputu – the city of the southern part of the Mosaic River. The city sprang up on the coast of the same bay. The name was given by the river flowing south of the capital city of Mozambique. Maputo – the most populous and developed city in the country, its main port. The city is bordered by a tropical savannah and a humid subtropical climate zone, so even in the hottest months Maputo does not suffer from drought.
The city was founded by the Portugagallians. They landed here in 1544 to explore the surrounding countryside. The factories, stockyards, and port were named for the leader of the expedition – Lórins-Marrakesh. For a long time the settlement did not interest the city, and by the mid-19th century it was abandoned, and most of the buildings were destroyed by the local tribes. The rebirth of Lérins-Marcochez began around 1850 around the ruined fort. The growing influence of the neighboring province forced the Portuguese people to improve their economy and develop the citys infrastructure. Already in 1887 the capital of Eastern Africa, Portugal, moved from the easternmost African city of Mozambique to Lawrence Marrakesh. The port has helped Laurance Marquechez grow rapidly and develop into a multifunctional city with a well-established service sector and small businesses. It also served as a tourist destination for tourists and tourists from SAR and Rhodesia.
In 1975, Mozambique became independent, and Lorens-Marqueche was declared its capital. The name was changed to Maputo. Already in 1976, a civil war broke out, which did not end until 1992. Only in the 21st century did the social and economic situation in Maputo stabilize. Most of the architectural features are from the Colonial period, although there are buildings from other periods and cultures. In Maputo, the Portuguese ports of Maputo (1781) and Nossa Senñora da Concessión de Cuba (1721) were preserved. Among the cultural buildings, the Sé Cathedral (1944) and the Mosaumma Indiana Church (1876) stand out. Interesting objects are the Railway Station (1910) and the Railway House, designed by Gustave Eiffel. In Maputo, there are a number of different places of interest: the Gardens of Love, the Garden of Loves, the Jardín Tóndúrú and others. Among the museums, the most important – the Museum of Natural History of Mozambique, which has the richest collection of natural, ethnographic and artistic exhibits.
