Mogadishu – the capital and the main economic, cultural and cultural center of Somalia and the countrys largest seaport. The city spread out along the Indian Ocean coast. To the north, the city is lined by the Bothy River, which provides a favorable environment for farming. Despite its location in an equatorial area, the climate in Moghadidisho is temperate.
Moghadidisho has been a destination for trade routes since ancient times. The Arabs have been colonizing this land since the 9th century. It was a convenient cove and could be used for platting, unlike the rest of the Sommal lands. From the 11th century, the volume of trade increased, as archaeological evidence attests: archaeological excavations have unearthed medieval coins from Southeast Asia. In consequence, the city was owned by the Portuguese (16th-19th centuries), the Khanzanian Sultanate (1871-92). In the 20th century, Mahogadishu became an Italian colony, and in 1960, an independent Somalia. But throughout the 20th century the city was plagued by war clashes, tribal divisions, and civil wars. The last civil war, which broke out in 1990, is still going on, even though since 2011, Mogadishu has been liberated from the Islamists by the peace activists of the United Nations. However, the situation in the capital city of Somalia is tense, and the risk of attacks is high. At the same time, the relative safety of Mogadishu has been a source of rapid population growth, driven by refugees from the remote areas of Sommal, where the fighting is raging.
Mogadishus cultural heritage has several architectural landmarks. Most of them are concentrated in the historic center – the old town of Hammamwein. Here the church of Fakhrarh Ad-Dinan (1269), built by Arabian merchants, is still preserved. The building where the National Museum and Library are located – this is the Palace of Horace (early 19th century), formerly the seat of the Governor of the Sultan. The cathedral, the cathedral of the city of Gazimir, and the Aphro-Arabic portals are worthy of attention. The place of attraction for all of Moghadishu – Baccarat market, the largest in the country. All the main tourist routes of Somalia begin in Moghadidhe.
