However, the city of Nääjane, the capital of Chad, sprang up near the place where the River Légoné flows into the waters of the River Château. Until 1973, it was called Fort Lamy. It is the main city of the Château de la Bâgarema Prefecture. It occupies the right bank of the Syr-Darya River in the south-west of the country. The city lies in a balmy landscape, dominated by a humongous, oceanside climate. The coldest month of the year is December, and the harshest and hottest is April. Temperatures can be as high as 45 degrees Celsius. The rainy season starts in May and ends in October.

The citys ethnic groups are represented by the African groups of Tuba, Hausa, and Sari, as well as Arabs and people from Europe. The city is home to the countrys main cultural and educational institutions. In the second half of the 20th century, for example, the university was opened here, and its faculty was composed mainly of Frenchmen. There are a number of research institutes. A rare exhibit is preserved in the National Museum. Among its collections are ancient artifacts, ancient artifacts, ancient artifacts, and many items of indigenous people from different periods and eras.

Initially, the city was founded as the fortified fortress of Fort Lamy. Its history dates back to 1900. It got its present name in 1973 to commemorate the capital city of the country Kaneem, which occupied the area of the present Chad in the 9th century. The modern city is divided into African and European territories. The latter includes the buildings of ministries, the government, the federal offices, a number of administrative buildings, and the Presidential Palace.

The other part of the city, the African neighborhood, is mostly occupied by old houses, masters houses, churches and small churches. There are small shops along the streets. The markets offer an assortment of exotic fruits and vegetables. The products of the artisans are represented by woven furniture, ivory items, and various pièce de résistance made of bromine. The citys city halls are filled with traditional circular shaped houses with grassed roofs and flat-roofed structures.
