From the middle of the 19th century, the European colonists had been actively expanding into the interior of Central Africa. Brazzaville was founded as a French colonist stronghold on the Congo River. The name of the village is in honor of Pierre de Brayza, the leader of the colloquial expedition. Later, Brazzaville grew, becoming a key trading post in the Congo and the administrative center of the French Congo. Later, the city «ceded to the capital of the French Eastern Africa. When the Republic of Korea gained independence in 1960, it retained its status as the political center of the country.
