The city of Lejeune is located in the same department and is its administrative center. From 1839 to 1857 it held high status and was the capital of the country. Leon founded Ernández de Córdoba not far from the rise of the Mombombombo Bacchus in the first quarter of the 16th century. In 1609, the village was severely devastated, caused by a hundred-year earthquake. You can still see it in the Old Leon area. In the aftermath of its restoration, it was moved about 30 kilometers away from the site, where it remains today.

The Cathedral of the Cathedral of the Cathedral of Los Angeles is considered the largest in Central America. Its walls are adorned with rare paintings, including The Deposition of the Cross by Anthony Scarrea. Other noteworthy features include: The Art Center, with a collection of religious art dating from the 18th century and a collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, and several museums. Churches built in different eras, traditional colonial houses with white walls and red tile roofs are a special attraction.
