Nicosia – a unique city. It is the capital of two states at once: Cyprus and the unrecognized North Cyprus, the territory of which is occupied by the Turks and is called Lefkokossia.

Nicosia lies between the mountainous mountains of Kierra and Trogrosos, on the border of Masauresia and not far from the river Akakikia. Thanks to the sub-terrestrial climate of the Mediterranean Sea, Nicaquisia has a wet and warm winter and mild summer.

The traces of the first humans in the citys area date back to 39 centuries before our time. But permanent settlement occurred much later, – in the 11th-9th centuries. It was a typical Greek polis. It was called Lédra (later Levescocticon). The period of Hellenism (4th century) was the period of decline for Lévêcquotérône, who lived a quiet village life until the 10th century. A new chapter in the history of Nicaquisia is associated with the Eastern administration. In 965, the city was reborn as the center of the French province. In the 12th century, the Crusaders came here. Richard the Lion takes it (1191) and makes it the kingdom of Cyprus. From then on, Levevkokotekton was called Nykoya. In the late 15th century, Cyprus was taken over by the Venetians, who built strong fortified walls in Nykokia. In 1571-1878 the city belonged to the Ottoman Empire. After the period of the British regime, Nicosia became the capital of the independent Cyprus in 1960. Turkey, which claimed the island, claimed the north of Cyprus in 1974 and claimed part of the island as its own territory, and the border between Cyprus and the Turkish zone runs through the historic center of Nicosia.

The sites of Nococia are mainly cultural buildings. Among them are the cathedrals of St. Sophia (13th-14th centuries) and St. John (1665), the Churches of the Augustine and the Mother of God (both 14th century), the Archdiocesan Palace (1959). It is also distinguished by the old market complex (14th-16th centuries). The main archaeological and architectural heritage of Nicaea is the Venetian complex of fortifications in the old city (16th century). It consists of 11 barracks and three gates, where the Famagusta gate is particularly noteworthy.
