Phôpôs – a small, cozy town located on the shores of the balmy Mediterranean Sea in the southwest corner of the Cypriot countryside. Even the most demanding traveller is offered by its beautiful beaches, its wealth of attractions and exceptional sites, its high quality tourism service and its own international airport. Thanks to all this, Pafos is considered one of the 3 best tourist centers in the country. Tourists can enjoy horseback riding, jet skiing and motorcycling, biking or hiking, and scuba diving, especially at Jubilee Shoals Deepwater Gorge. The town is a great place to visit bars and restaurants, and to enjoy the discottas.

The citys founder is considered to be Agapénor, who was famous in the Troyan War and laid the citys first stone in the distant 12th century B.C. ý. In the beginning the city was located just outside its present location, in a place called Kouklia, known as the temple of Aphrodrodite – the most significant and lifelike temple of the God of Love and Beauty. Later it was moved closer to the sea, became a market town, attracted pilgrims and merchants, and was rightfully considered the capital of the island. The forces of nature have repeatedly ravaged the land, but each time the city has been restored from the ruins, Each time it has been rebuilt from the ruins, it has been reconstructed, making the world more beautiful and important as a capital and a trading port.

Present-day Paphos is conveniently divided into two parts – upper and lower. The upper Pafos, or Ktima, is the center of the administrative life of the city, while the lower Pafos, or Kato Pafos, is located along the seashore and is a tourist area. The two parts of the city are joined together by the Avenue of St. Paul, thanks to whom St. Sergius Paul received the Christian faith, after which the Christian faith spread throughout the island.

There are probably more places of cultural and artistic value in Paphos than in all of Cyprus. Lets list just the most important of them. The famous mosaics of Paphos are the most beautiful of the eastern Middle East, representing the pillars of the wilas of knowledge and depicting the histories of ancient myths. The sills of the Castle of the Forty Columns, named for the large number of columns used in the construction of the castle. Odeon – an ancient amphitheater built by the Romans. Now, after renovation, it has 12 seats and looks a little shorter than the exterior structure that it was originally, with 25 seats for spectators. The famous Asclepion – the place where people were treated and the God of Medicine was worshipped. The kings sepulchres, though not the burial place of the kings, were the final resting place of the unusually wealthy citizens who were buried here in the past in burial chambers raised directly in the rock. The Rock of Atoprodita is located at Paphos and, according to the legend, is the place where the beautiful Atoprodita, born in the songs, gave her beauty and grace to the world. In honor of the birth of Aphrodite, a shrine was built in the village of Kouklia, now lying in the ruins, the most important and visited place of the goddess of love. The history of Christianity is also reflected in the structures of the past few years, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Monastery of St. Nicholas and the Church of the Holy Trinity. The Church of St. Nicholas, the Church of St. The Church of St. Paul, the Colonnade of St. Paul, the Chapel of St. John the Baptist, the Chapel of St. John the Baptist, the Chapel of St. Paul, the Chapel of St. John the Baptist, the Chapel of St. Paul.
