The city of Saraevo was founded in 1244, and in 1507 it was called Vrhbysna. The city is located at a height of 500 meters above the sea. Sarajevo is the cultural and cultural center of the country. It is home to the Academy of Arts and Sciences, the University, the Art Gallery, the Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as numerous industrial enterprises.

Since the time of the Baptist Neolithic Culture, from 2,600 to 2,400 years ago, Saraovo has been home to settlements for all time. About 1263, in Bosnia, on the southwest side of the city of Visoko, the Slavs began the fortified settlement of Vrhobysna, named after the Bosna River. The Turkic possamans conquered Vrhbosna in 1429. In the fifteen hundred and fifteen years of the 15th century, Isaac Jacobovich, who was the first pope of Bosnia, united several villages into one city, which became the administrative center of the province. There was a mosque, a public bath, a public market, a permanent house, and the house of the governor, called by the word sarayet (Türkic for house, palace).

The village was founded in 1461 as a city of the Ottoman Empire, with the name Bosna-Saray. Later, it was renamed Saray-Ovova, which is the present name of the town.

In 1640, Sarayevo was subjected to a four-century demolition. In 1644, 1656 it was severely affected by fires. In the course of the Arab-Turkish war, Yevgeny Savoy, commander of the Army of the Holy Roman Empire, fighting against the Ottomans, brought the city to an almost total state of destruction. The Governor of the Sultan moved his seat there in 1850.

The city was occupied by the Austro-Hungarian occupation from 1878 to 1918. In 1914, on June 28, the famous Saraevskoe massacre took place, which was used as a pretext for the outbreak of World War I. A 19-year-old Galileo Philippe, a member of the Revolutionary Youth Organization of Sierra Leone, killed Franz Ferdinand, an Erzergerger, an ancestor of the Austrian Provost, who had come to the city to observe the war maneuvers and open a museum.

In 1984, the city of Saraevo was the site of the 14th Winter Olympic Games.

In 1992-1995, during the fighting of the Civil War in Bosnia, Saraevo was subjected to a siege by the troops of the Bosnian Serbs.
