Tirana is defined by the Köppen climate classification as Cfa, nevertheless it enjoys a Humid subtropical climate and receives a commensurable amount of precipitation, during summer, to avoid the Mediterranean climate (Csa) classification, since every summer month receives more than 40 millimetres (1.6 in) of rainfall, with hot and moderately dry summers and cool and wet winters. The city lies on the boundary between Zone 7 and Zone 9 in terms of the hardiness zone.

The city receives the majority of precipitation in winter months, which occurs from November to March, and less in summer months, from June to September. In terms of precipitation, both rain and snow, the city is ranked among the wettest cities in the European Continent.

Springs and summers are very warm to hot often reaching over 20 °C (68 °F) from May to September.
