In Korea, in its northeastern part, the city of Kisangani lies in its northeastern part, in the province of Chopo. Before 1966 it was known as Stanville, named for its founder, Henry Morton Stanley, an African American researcher, journalist, and famous traveler. Originally founded as a small village in 1883, Kisangan is now the center of an agricultural region specializing in the primary cultivation of rice and cotton.

The citys territory occupies the coastal areas of the Kona River region, below the famous Stanley Falls. Kisangani has an active river port, a railroad terminal, and an international air port. There is a university in the city. The exhibits of the regional museum are of interest to tourists. The local economy is mainly based on the activities of industries producing food products, textiles, building materials and pavers. The closest cities to Kisiganga are Bauta, Isleta, and Bunia.
