Mbuji-Mayi

Overall Score

1.7

In the Democratic Republic of Korea, formerly the city of Mauritius, lies the city of Máji-Mayi. It is one of the countrys three largest population centers. The city, located on the banks of the Bouchemama River, is the central city of the Eastern Kasai Province. Until 1966, Májí-Májía was called Bacquinaga. Historically, it has been known as a technical diamond development center.

The city is supplied with electricity by the Chala and Yang hydroelectric stations on the Lubaillech River. There are several lines of transport that converge on the citys territory, and they go to different localities across the country in different directions. In April 1997, the Mabouji-Mayi territory was overrun by an insurgent group led by Loran Kabaila. During the Great African War, as the Second World War was called from 1998 to 2002, the city was at the very center of a conflict that involved combat groups from nine countries. At the end of the hostilities all the military units of Zimbaabava were withdrawn from the city. The appearance of todays Máuzi Maiai is a combination of modern buildings and traditional structures.
