West of the island of Hokkaido is the port city of sakama, the center of sakamas structure. Initially, there were a few communities in the region, of which the city was born (1889). The construction of the railroad there promoted the industrial development of the city (the end of the 19th century). The city of Ocahoma becomes an important transportation and educational center of western Japan. After World War II, the military base of the Japanese army was established in Okowa. Therefore the city was severely destroyed by the American air force. Consequently, the city of Ocaama was rebuilt.

The city has developed chemical and textile industries, mechanical engineering, textiles, marble, ceramic products. Agriculture is developed: there are plantations of rice, olive trees, wine, pears. Sáicama has railroad service as well as an airport. It is home to one of Japans most important universities, the National University of Tokyo. There are also seven private universities.

Many of the attractions of Sakayama are the Sakayama Castle, the Kororukuiyo Gardens, and the various museums.
