The third largest and most important city in the world, Rijeka is located on the coast of the Gulf of Quarryer of the Arctic Sea. ×The River Runs through the town, which flows into the Gulf and gave its name to the settlement. In Croatian & laquo;rjeka» means «rjeka». Rijeka is the largest cargo and passenger port in Croatia, as well as a port on the way from the Balkan Peninsula to Western Europe. The international airport of Rijeka is on the island of Crèche.

The Rijeka area has been a popular destination since prehistoric times. There were Celtic settlements of Laurierna and Tartica in the ancient times. But there is no exact date of the citys founding. It is known that in the Middle Ages it was owned by the Pots, the Lombards, the Franks, and it was part of the Croatian and Hungarian states until 1466 when it was added to the possessions of the Austrian Habasburgs and changed to Fiumiume. Until 1870, Rieuca was the main (and sometimes the only) port of the Empire, which ensured its prosperity. In 1919, Italy and Spain laid claim to the city, but in 1920 Riejeca became a city of war. But as early as 1921 it was annexed by Italy. The city did not become part of the European country of Croatia until 1947.

The citys economy is based on shipbuilding and port activities. Tourism is not the least important part of the citys life. Rijeka – a resort city with many attractions. Among the main architectural structures of the city, the remains of the Roman era architectural monuments stand out, The citys tower, the Baroque Clock, the Cathedral of St. Vitus (1638), St. Jeromes Church, and the Corso Street Assembly. There is a tower in Rijeka with its own Pisas Tower – the Slightly Venetian Casa Tower (1377). The cultural program of Rijeka is represented by the Museum of the Sea and Coastal Croatia, the National Theater and the annual carnival. The area is suitable for singing tours and music. Cruises along the coastline and on the island in the Rieeka area are popular.
