Lisbon – the largest city and capital of Portugal. Lisbon – an ancient city, over two thousand years old. Evidence uncovered by archaeologists indicates that the area has been inhabited by Phoenicians since roughly 1200 A.D. The earliest record of the city is from the second century of our era.

Lisbon remained under the rule of the Roman Empire for a long time, until it collapsed, after which it was taken over by the tribes of the East and West. In 714, Lisbon fell under the rule of the Isle of Man. The Arabs reigned over the city for over three hundred years, until the Moose-Mulmans conquered the city when the French were in charge.

Licisbon becomes the capital of Portugal in 1256. Later, in 1384, the city survived a quarter of a months siege by the Celtic army. Then a rather long period of calm ensued, lasting until November 1755, when Lisbon was destroyed by a widespread earthquake. It wasnt until the end of the 18th century that the city was completely rebuilt. Then John Bonaparte, whose troops invaded the city in 1807, takes him over, but by 1811 the city was defeated. Calm came to the city only after the end of World War II.

Lisbon – it is a city that lies on seven hills. To make its streets full of steep climbs and descents comfortable, the citys public transportation system is complemented by handy hand controllers and lifts.
In the center of the city, the streets are spacious and wide, with trees planted along the street corridors, decorated with buildings of various architectural styles, mosaic-like mosaics, and numerous cafes. If you look at Lisbon from its main viewpoint – from the river, you see the city as if it were painted by an imaginative hand: its small houses, in a landscape of greenery, are interspersed with the towers and domes of the cathedrals. And to the west of Lisbon is one of Europes largest urban parks, Monsanto Park, covering an area of about ten square kilometers.

You should begin your acquaintance with Lisbon at Rossio Square, home to the Teatro Nacional de Día II, the statue of King Pedro IV and the Brónio Fountains. From there you can walk to the Ruedera de Réréché, with its pink palace, the Palaiso Fauché, from which the main street of the capital &ndash begins; The Aveida da Liberdade, strolling in the shade of the crimson alleys, one can enter a restaurant or a boutique and look at the lavish shops that line it. At the end of the Avenue de la Liberada is the monument to Marquês de Pombal, while to the north of the square, on the slopes of a cliff, is the most beautiful Parc de lÉdouard VII.

Aarka, adorned with statues of famous personalities and barnacles, which connects Augusta Street to Commemoration Square, one of the symbols of the capital, is of particular interest. And in one of Lisbons oldest towns, the district of Belém, is the Monastery of Jerónimos, the most important architectural structure in the city. The monastery, built in the early 16th century in the Manualino style, was founded to commemorate the opening of the sea route to India by Vacca da Gama.

Another symbol of Lisbon is the nearby Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém). Built in the style of the Portugal Tower, it is the former gatehouse and mooring, which was completely rebuilt in 1845. A stroll along Belle Époque can take you to Belle Époque Palace, which now houses the Presidential Palace, the former Kings Palace, and the unique Museum of Carthage. From there you can admire the magnificent view of the famous & ‖Most 25 April‖ and the Statue of Christ. And when you go to the east side of Lisbon, you can see the 15th-century fortress of San Gérgis. Built at the beginning of the 12th century, it is the oldest church in Lisbon. The monuments left by the Romans, Moorish and Goths, and the architecture of architecture are spectacular, so if you visit Lisbon youll never forget it.
