On the northern coast of the autonomous region of Galicia, La Coruña (A Coruña) is a city, port and resort in the northwest of Spain. The aluminum, textile, textile, oil refining, and fishing industries are well developed here. One of the citys symbols is the Tower of Hercules, an ancient Maimonite tower that was inhabited by the Romans during the reign of King Troyan.
The small peninsula on which La Coruña is located was in ancient times inhabited by the Quelites. During the period of Roman rule in the 2nd century B.C., a small settlement in present-day La Coruña developed into a major trading port. In the 10th century, King Benedict II decreed the construction of a fortification port. Among them are the 19th-century high-rise buildings next to the harbor frontage. In the central part of the Old City is St. Peters Square. There is a memorial to the courageous young girl who led the fight against the English sergeant Drejka.
In the historic part of La Coruña, there are several ancient churches: The 12th-century SantAgata Church; the 13th-century SantAgata Maria delle Câmpolo Church, which houses the Museum of Religious Art. Among the exhibits are items dating from the 12th to 15th centuries. A 15th-century temple with the same name rises on the Plaza de Santa Barbara.
Baroque 18th-century churches such as the churches of San Jorge, San Nicolas, Las Cruces, and the Santo Domingo Monastery. The Museum of Archaeology has a 16th-century castle at San Antonín Castle, where the Museum of Archaeology has its own exhibits. The Park of SantAgata Margherita houses the Museum of Science and the Planetarium. The Aquarium de la Féministérature is considered to be one of the largest in the country.
Summer recreation areas are represented by the beaches of Riazos and Orsan, which are marked by the flag of the Blue Flag. The coastal line is about a half kilometer long. The places here are attractive to surfers. There are numerous coves, beaches and fishing villages on both sides of the city.
