The city of Krajowa, the center of the Djugol River, in the central part of the Lowland region, has sprung up on the Djugol River bank. It is 68 kilometers from the coast of the Danube River. Capital Bucharest and Krajowa are separated by 227 kilometers of road. The city has a developed infrastructure and produces chemical, woodworking, textile, polymeric, electrical and electronics industries. It was initiated by the botanical professor Alexandru Baia. The main purpose of the gardens creation was the research work of the professors of the Agricultural Institute of Crayza and its students. As time passed, the area became a free zone for all visitors. There are varieties of flora from almost every corner of the globe. In March 2002, the Botanical Gardens was officially named “Algeria Baia” on its 50th anniversary.
A well-known and frequently visited place is Nicholas Romanescu Park, which has a zoo on its grounds. It was designed in the early 20th century by the French architect Émile Rendeau. At that time, the mayor of Cracow was Romanesque. In 1900, the design received a gold medal at the Paris Exposition. The park was laid out and built from 1901 to 1903.
The John Michael Palace, which was built from 1896 to 1908, is home to the Krajowa Art Museum. The French architect Paul Gauterreau worked on the design of the building. During the construction and finishing work, marble was used. Linoleum silks, Venetian mirrors and translucent glass were used in the interior.
The palace has been the home of the Art Museums exhibits since 1954. The most famous of all are the works by Konstantin Bascuchi, a French muralist of Romanian origin, among whom are Quot;Vitélie; Quot;Pocheluy; Quot;Lisle; Quot;Miss Guilty; Quot;Miss Pogonni; Quot; among others. In addition to works by Romanian masters, including Stéphane Lucian, Teodor Paladie, and Nicolai Grigorescu, the gallery features Romanian icons. Equally unique are such historic buildings as the 17th-century Cathedral of St. Demetrius Bicius, the church of Obedianu, dated 1748, the monasteries of Kornetul, Bukovel and Vladyadyanyu.
