On one of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria, lies the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, the administrative center of the province of Las Palmas. It is located 210 kilometers from the northwest border of the African continent. The ethnic makeup of the townspeople is diverse, with the Koreans and the Indians predominating. It was founded by the Spanish. On his first voyage, Christopher Columbe stayed in what was then a small village on the island of Gran Canaria. The streets of the modern city are full of modern stores, shops, restaurants, and hotels. Its a place where nightlife is the key to life.

The historic quarter of Vegaeth, where the buildings of the Colonial period are located, was inscribed on the UNESCO Inventory in 1990. In the 16th century, the Dutch tried to take over and subjugate the city. In honor of the glorious victory over the enemy, the Spanish built a cathedral in St. Annes Square. The magnificent structure, looking upward, is visible from all over the city. The Casa de Colón Museum is housed in several buildings, one of which is the Columbus House.

Highway is the Church of the Iglesias de SantAntonio Abad. According to one of the legends, Christopher Columbus prayed there before he left for the New World. The Museo Canário houses the culture and life of the Ghanaians, the indigenous people of the island. The Museum of Modern Art at Atlantico de Arte Méditerranée displays works by 20th-century painters and muralists.

Another city district, Trianna, is known for its shopping and entertainment complexes. It is home to the Gran Teatro delle Tercerio, the citys first theater, and an ancient church dating from the 16th century. Nearby, there is a neighborhood of parks and beautiful gardens, the Ciudad/Hardin, with wide alleys, fountains, and cuculturines. The most popular is Las Canteras, which is 3 kilometers long. The sites are characterized by calm water, as the coastline is sheltered by the surf. Next to the citys park there is another beach, Playa las Alcáravas. Nearby, there are numerous yacht clubs that offer boats for rent.
