On the banks of the River Týdegun, close to the Yellow Sea, lies Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. The name is translated as “Wide World. The capital became a city of direct responsibility in 1946. ×The city is crossed by the River Patongon.

Scientists believe the city was founded at the dawn of our time. Although legend has it that Pyeongyang was founded in 2334 B.C. and was the capital city of the country of Kokcheon, called Wannhommun. From 108 A.D. to the present era, the country of Kocheon was known as the Han dynasty. Several districts were formed on the occupied territory. The capital of the district of Lolyan was founded near where Pyeongyang is today. In 313 the area fell under the rule of the state of Goguryeo, the capital of which was transferred to Pyeongyang in 427.

Pyeongyang was the capital city of Pyeongyang during the period of the dynasty of the Pyeongchang dynasty. After Korea gained independence, the capital was under the control of the USSR. During the Korean War, the citys territory was repeatedly in the area of air bombardments. Its streets were destroyed, and the citys quarters were ablaze. After the end of the war, the Soviet Union helped Pyeongyang quickly rebuild it. The citys streets were decorated with new residential, public and administrative buildings.

The capital city has many cultural institutions. The first theater is the post-World War II World Theater, the Theater of Marrakech. The building was undergoing renovations from 2004 to 2005. In 1946, the city created the Symphony Orchestra. Its basic repertoire includes national music, as well as opera and ballet classics from Russian culture.

In 1998, the Cultural Exhibition Complex opened its doors to the public and features exhibitions of art and literature, Artists canvas, photographic works, and applied art, including embroidery, mosaics, and artwork. The Central House of Youth, the National Army Circus, the National Palace of Culture, the Triple Revolution Exhibition, the International Film Theater, and other equally popular cultural institutions in the capital are also active.
