The city of Cannes, or Cannes on the French coast, has an interesting history. It was founded during Roman rule, in 42 A.D. At that time it was called Egretna. Since about the 10th century, the city has been called Kañúa. Gradually the name was transformed into the familiar Kanna. For a long time, the Tuscany itself was a small fishing town.
But the area around the future city was a well-known area in France. This is evidenced by the Lérins Islands, which are not far from Cannes. A monastery was built there in the fifth century, as well as a fortress to protect them against numerous pirates. For a time, a mysterious prisoner, known as the Iron Mask, was kept in her eerie chambers. An English aristocrat, Henry Brougham, came to the small village of Nizza in 1834, visiting the epidemic-stricken town of Nizza. He liked the landscape so much that he bought the land and started building a mansion. Many knowledgeable people of his time followed his example, and soon afterwards, the Kannas began to be haunted by the spruce up. By the way, most of them still belong to the families whose forefathers built them. Most of the houses were built on Coruscutt Street &nash; once a muddy country road, now &nash; the center of an iconic city.
Its worth noting that the International Film Festival of Cannes is the citys biggest celebrity. This competition began in the late 1930s as a response to the politicized fascist cinema of the time, the Venice Film Festival. The war broke out and the idea did not take hold, but in 1946 it was decided to create the festival. Originally it was held in the fall, but from 1952 the time was changed to May. Thanks to the many praises for this wonderful place, the festival grew in popularity and became one of the biggest in Europe.
In addition to the Cannes Film Festival and the sites associated with it, there are other attractions in the city. For example, the ancient Sücke Tower. There are several museums in the city, among them the Museum of the Sea, which has a collection of various shipwrecks.
