Like the Pink City was named for the color of its walls, one of the most famous cities in France, – Toulouse, located in the south of France.

The first settlements were located in the city in the VIII-VII centuries before Christ, As evidenced by burials found in one of the sites. In the 3rd century the Celtines came here, and later the Romans. Initially the local tribes were on friendly terms with Rome, but then war broke out. The victors were the fearsome sons of Mars, who, according to history, were rewarded with 70 tons of gold. During Roman rule, it was the capital of the province and an important trading center. It was a great positive influence that the Way of Saint Jacob – the many pagan paths that passed through the city. In 1229 the university opened. More than once, Tuscaloosa was a victim of the sieges of the Saracens and Krestonians. In the 14th century, the city went through a crisis associated with plague epidemics and the raging century war. However, soon the decline changes with the beginning of a trade in dyes for fabrics. During these events the city survives two sieges – first by the army of the Royalists, and in 1814 by the army of Belgiumton.

Postly during the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution spread into the city. Since 1856 the railroad began to operate, the appearance of the city changed. In those days, Tuscaloosa was known as «s city of flowers – how much these flowers were exported throughout Europe. Because of World War I, the chemical and aviation industries were moved to the city, giving an unprecedented boost to the regions development. In the aftermath of World War II, many defense and comic industries were founded.

These include the Church of the Dominicans with its tomb of Saint Thomas of Aquinas and the Cathedral of Saint-Etienne, The cathedral was built in 1073, as was the St. Catherine Basilica, laid out for the needs of the pilgrims who followed the path of St. James.
