The Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple is located near the village of Pekatu in the southwestern part of Bali, on the Bukit Peninsula. It is located above the sea, on a steep cliff more than 90 meters high. It was founded around the tenth century. It is one of the island’s nine major public shrines, protecting Balinese from evil sea demons.
