On the northern shore of Lake Dyanyin, the city of Kunming, the metropolitan center of the province of Yunying, has sprung up on three sides surrounded by mountain massifs. The origins of the city are related to the tribesmen who lived there in ancient times. During the Han and Tan dynasties, they inhabited the lake basin and occupied the area where the present city is located.

The area in which the present city lies is nearly two kilometers above the sea level. Thanks to Koonimens advantageous location, its inhabitants do not suffer from the cold in the summer and the cold in the winter. Because of this reason, Kounimín is often known as "the City of eternal Spring. To this day, on one of the citys streets, a bronze church, which rose during the reign of the Mai Dynasty, still stands.

The current city has developed a number of industries, including textiles and chemicals, food and leather, mechanical engineering and metallurgy. Local craftsmen make authentic linen and carpet products that continue to be as popular among local residents and tourists as they have been for years.

The history of the city dates back to the early days, when it was called Yingyouling. Throughout history, it has changed its name many times. Over time it changed to Yunnan, then to Idaan, then to Kunyuzhuu, and then to Yingyin. It was not until the 13th century that it acquired its present name after the arrival of the Mongols.

In the middle of the 17th century, the city was called Yunyunnan (Yunyunyou) and was the administrative center of the province with the same name. From 1908 foreign trade was allowed there. ×Five years later, after the economic changes, the city was renamed by its present name.

To this day, the city has many historic landmarks, including the Church of the Holy Sky; , the Eastern and Western Pagoda, "the Temple of the Three Pure Ones, the Church of the Tsingyungusa, the grand Judean center, the Temple of the Suntun, and the magnificent Garden and Park Ensemble and Silin Park.
