On the southwest side of the Sulawesi Island lies the city of Macacássar, the southern province of South Sulawesi in Indonesia. It occupies an area on the coast of the Macacarca Strait. From 1971 to 1999 the city was called Oujungandang, the name given to the prehistoric fortress anchorage.

The port terminal is used for domestic and international flights. One of Maccasars great assets is the boats called Pininis&quot. Their construction makes them suitable for long sea voyages. Nowadays, the "Pines" are most often used as fishing boats. During the fishing season, they are equipped with lights because of the bright light the fish casts on them.

The citys primary industry is the cultivation of sea cucumbers, the pufferfish. This species of marine animal is rare. It is found only in the waters of the Sea of Japan and some areas of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. The city exports ebony and ebony.

In the first half of the 16th century, Macacare was considered a thriving trading center not only in eastern Indonesia, but throughout the island. The rulers of Macacasar made the city a free trade zone. Merchants from different countries could trade in its territory. The ruling kings could interfere as they pleased with the activities of the East Indian Company in controlling trading in Maccasar. Each of them had the right to trade regardless of his or her faith. Over time, Maccasar became the main center of the Malay people who did the trading in the Moluccas islands.

In the first half of the 18th century, the Macacara traders organized the harvest of seafood on the northern coast of Australia for subsequent shipment and sale on the Chinese market. After the Dutch were able to take control of the city, it lost its former importance.
