Zhucheng (Chinese: 诸城, pinyin: Zhūchéng) is an urban county in Weifang City District, Shandong Province, China. Its name means “Zhu City” after the administrative center of Zhu County, which was located here in ancient times.
Under the Western Han Empire, Guo Meng was granted the title of Dunhu-hou (东武侯) in 201 BC, and the area was allocated to him as a fiefdom. After his death, the appanage was transformed into Dun’u County (东武县) in 181 BC. In addition to it, there were Zhu (诸县), Pingchang (平昌县), Heng (横县), Chang (昌县), Shijuan (石泉县) counties in the territory of today’s Zhucheng urban county at that time. In 106 BC, they were subordinated to the Lan’ya (琅琊郡) district, whose rule was located in Dun’u. Under the Eastern Han Empire, the counties of Heng, Chang and Shiquan were disbanded in 80.
Under the Northern Wei Empire in 529, Fuqi County (扶淇县) was separated from Dunyu County.
Under the Northern Qi Empire, Zhu, Pingchang and Fuqi counties were annexed to Dunyu County.
Under the Sui Empire, Dunyu County was renamed Zhucheng (诸城县) in 598.
In 1950, the Jiaozhou Special District (胶州专区) was created and the county became part of it. In 1956, the Jiaozhou Special District was dissolved and the county became part of the Changwei Special District (昌潍专区). In 1967, the Changwei Special District was renamed Changwei County (昌潍地区). In 1981, Changwei County was renamed Weifang County (潍坊地区).
In 1983, Weifang County was dissolved and Weifang City County was formed in its place. In 1987, Zhucheng County was transformed into an urban county.
