Izhevsk, a city with more than two hundred years of history, one of the most beautiful cities in Russia, is the capital of Udmurtia.
Izhevsk has always been an industrial city, in fact, the history of the city began with the construction of the railway plant on the river Izh. In October 1757, by decree of the President, the construction of the factory plank began. The forced peasants, braving the hardships and diseases, built the floodplain during three years of arduous labor, which opened the first page of the labor village, which was subsequently called the Izhjev Factory.
For about 20 years, the village had prospered, with dozens of wooded cabins, sawmills, and barns growing next to the plant. It stayed that way until it was destroyed by the Pugachevites. Sadly, Izhevsk was entering the 19th century. But already in 1807, the Izhjevsk Gun Factory was founded, and by the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1812, the production of firearms and cold steel for the Russian army was in full swing. The village prospered, its population grew rapidly, and by the mid-19th century it had surpassed such industrial cities as Perm, Ufa, Novgorod and many others. The citys economic development lasted until the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The citys residents took an active part in the political collisions that took place in Russia in the early 20th century. Among them were both followers of the Revolution and those who did not accept the consequences of the Revolution. More than 30,000 people migrated to Harbin and then to the United States, where their descendants still live today.
In 1918, the village was transformed into the city of Izhevsk.
In the course of the war, the Izhevsk Ordnance Factory supplied weapons to the front without any interruptions. High-quality steel was used to produce guns, cannons, machine guns, and cannons.
In 1978, a decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR decreed that Izhevsk was awarded the Order of the October Revolution for labor services of the workers, for their contribution to the defeat of the German Nazi invaders.
In 1985, Izhevsk was renamed to Uzhjevsk, but under public pressure, in 1987 the city regained its historic name.
Izhjevsk today is a multicultural cultural and scientific center of Udmurtia. The city is also amazing for being home to people of several faiths. In Izhevsk, along with Christian churches, hymns and churches peacefully coexist. And because of this, the city is admirable for its architecture.
