Krasnodar

Krasnodar is practically midway between the equator and the North Pole, on the so-called Golden Line, which is considered to be the most prosperous place to live. Here, summer lasts for several months, and the number of sunny days exceeds the days of bad weather. It is a marvelous region of the country – a unique, colorful, and interesting one.

The city was founded in 1793 by the Ataman of the Black Sea Cossacks as a military barracks. The name was chosen to commemorate the gift of the land by Catherine the Great to the Black Sea Cossacks – Yekaterinodar. In 1867, Ekaterinodar became the center of Kuban, and a few years later it became a city. Like many Russian cities, Yekaterinodar was renamed after the October Revolution. Krasnodar – as a gift of the Krasnodar people to their native land. This green southern city has been graced with houses in the style of provincial classism for many years. It is not for nothing that the city was once called Little Paris. Since then, there have been buildings with a century of history, located in the center of modern Krasnodar.

The city has many historical and architectural monuments. These are the monument to Catherine the Great in front of the Constitutional Assembly, the monument to the Kuban Cossacks, and the Holy St. Catherine Cathedral, built in 1914. It now holds the icon of Our Lady of Kazan and the relics of the Mother of God of the Kuban region, Mother Ekaterina. There are only 30 more like it in the world.

The city still beats other regional and provincial centers in terms of the number of museums. You can visit the Krasność State Museum of Archaeology and Natural History at the Vernadsky State Museum of Archaeology and Natural History. Å. D. Felyolyn, the House of Kazak Ataman Barsuk, the Literary Museum of Kransnodar, the Museum of Culture "Samson" – the only museum of this theme in the country.

Walk through sunny Krasnodar, walk its streets and squares, smell its flowers – youll always take away a touch of Kuban hospitality and generosity.
