Nizhny Novgorod – founded in the 13th century at the confluence of two rivers, the Oka and the Volga, is a city that has preserved its timeless spirit to this day.
The citys main attraction is the Kremlin of Nizhny Novgorod, which is rightfully considered to be the most magnificent and grandiose medieval fortress in central Russia to this day. One of the oldest churches in Nizhny Novgorod is the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. During the time of turmoil, Kozyma Minin called on the capital of Moscow to liberate the capital from the Polish protesters. Initially wooden, the stone church was built in the 18th century on the initiative and at the expense of the priest Drynichnikov, but it has not been preserved in its original form to this day, having been destroyed by the Bolsheviks.
