São José dos Campos (port. São José dos Campos) is a municipality in Brazil, part of the state of São Paulo. It is part of the Vali do Paraíba Paulista mesoregion. It is part of the São José dos Campos economic-statistical micro-region and urban agglomeration. The population is 594,948 as of 2007 and 681,036 as of 2014. It occupies an area of 1,100 km². Population density is 555.6 persons/km² in 2007 and 619.1 persons/km² in 2014. The city was founded in 1767. The city is home to the headquarters of the aircraft manufacturer Embraer, one of the world market leaders in passenger regional jets. The city is home to the Technological Institute of Aeronautics.
