The city of Chatham is located in the state of Khent. Historic documents refer to it as Cetham from 880.

Catham remained a small village for several centuries, and did not develop until 1568. It began to flourish by a decree of Queen Elizabeth creating a shipbuilding company on its territory. Since then, ships and submarines have been built in the docks. For many years, the city was home to the countrys naval base. In 1884 the yard was shut down, but the city still had some installations that were owned by the Royal Navy. These include the Corps of Engineers, barracks, and ports.

In the 19th century, the city had strong fortifications. They were built to protect the buildings against enemy attacks. The closure of the yard in the present era resulted in more than 7,000 people losing their jobs. During that period, the citys unemployment rate was nearly 20 percent.

The Naval War Memorial was erected in memory of the 18.5,000 British Navy officers who died in World War I and World War II.

Between 1876 and 1892, the quaternary was built in the vicinity of the Fort of Loutoin to protect the landward approaches to the city. It is the smallest castle built in Chatham.

Apnonore Castle is near the citys outskirts. It is a fortress of the ancient city of Jerusalem. In the 19th century it was built to protect ships in the ships docks.
