On the North Sacramento River in the province of Alberta lies the city of Edæmonton, which was founded in 1795 by the Compagnie de Gódzándezówna. The name of the city refers to the birthplace of the company manager, who was from the small English town of Edæmonton.

In the beginning, the fort of Edemonton was a fur trading town and a small settlement for those who first explored the northern and western territories of Canada.
