In the southeastern part of Canada, on the Eastern Channel, in the Ontario Province, lies the city of St. Cattarias. It is located near the U.S. border, 51 kilometers from the center of Ontario and the largest city in Canada, Tortonto. The settlement was founded by loyalists in 1790. It was first noted on geographical maps in 1808. Many freed slaves joined the loyalists in St. Catharines. St. Catherines became a city in 1876. Thanks to its advantageous geographic location, the city is growing rapidly. The economy of St. Catherines is very important. It is home to a number of industries, including the metal industry, iron and paper, and machinery.

Because of its abundance of parks and gardens, St. Catherine is officially known as «Garden City» the city is a garden city. One of them – the park of Monte Montefeltro, which is a real rose garden. In 1964, the University of Brooks opened. St. Catharines is home to a balneological resort. In 1963, it opened a 40-meter-long bridge, the largest in the country.
