Wooster is not only the second largest city in Massachusetts, but also the second largest in New England. It is located in the center of the state, on the west side of Lake Quincinnamon, and is the center of the county of Worcester. It has several names: the City of the Seven Corners, the Heart of the Union, the City of the Devils, and just Woostertown.
Wooster was inhabited by tribes of the Nimuku Indians before the arrival of the European settlers. In 1673 Daniel Gouquin and John Eliot brought people here to establish a Christian settlement for whites and Indians. The first settlers were mostly fur traffickers and traders. Soon the «king Philip » (an English monarch against the Indians) broke out, and the village was destroyed and put to death. A new account of the citys history began in 1705, inspired by a Janus Reiss initiative. At that time the settlement was named after the English Wooster. And the townspeople subsequently honored Rice by placing a memorial stone in his place.
Modern Worcester is a major regional health care center. It is home to a medical university and several research centers and clinics. Medical institutions – the citys main employers.
Wousteur – a city that is ancient by U.S. standards. It has many historic features. They include several 18th- and 19th-century buildings, the Ancestry and Johns Works (1860), the Crompton Lum Worx Complex (1860), the Mackinix Auditorium (1855), and the Mackinix Concert Hall (1860); (1855), the complex of the University of Technology (1868), the Theater & ‖The Ornery Museum‖, the Railway Station (1911), the City Hall (1898), and others.
Woucester has some remarkable parks, most notable among which are the «Christopher Colombe Park; Ellem Park; and Seylesbury Park, with the Bancroft Tower, which is extraordinary for an American city. Built in 1900, this 17-meter tower looks like a real-life, century-old tower. Other points of interest include the Museum of Art with its 35,000 exhibits and the Art Museum &Little Chappa Boy, which features a Bairns Island station.
In addition to the museum, there is also an art museum with 35,000 exhibits and a statue of a Chappa Boy that enlists a Bairns Island station.
