On the Atlantic coast in the state of Georgia lies the city and port of Savannah. It is located at the point where a single river flows into the ocean. The urban area and its surroundings are in a sub-terrestrial climate with hot summers and mild winters with occasional snowfalls. Savannah was founded by General James Eagle. During the American Revolution its territory was under the control of the British, who maintained their positions there until 1782.
As a major industrial center and an important port on the Atlantic coast, Savannah is notable for its historical monuments. One of its buildings houses the Historical Society, the oldest museum in the South of the United States. Within the city limits are the first African American Apostolic Church and the countrys oldest sinernaigas. The Museum of the Colonial Period is a fascinating exhibit. There are several ruined buildings on the Thulefjord Park that were built in the early 19th century.
