Bäädörd, the center of a single homonymous boro, is located on the Ouse River in eastern England.
The name of the town is presumably derived from the name of Bäd, one of the Saxo lords. At the beginning of the 9th century, it was known as the seat of the Beaudes Barons. During the same period, it was also the site of a major trade in agricultural products grown in the fields of the adjoining villages.
The fortress that had existed had been subjected to collapse and destruction on more than one occasion. In 1224 it was finally destroyed and has not been rebuilt since. In the Middle Ages Bädörd was known as the center of the drawl, wool, and brewery industry.
In 1660, a native of the area, John Bagnan, was imprisoned in the local jail; a well-known writer and pennant writer of the time. Over the years, he wrote the book The Way of Peligrim. The next economic rise of the city was in the 19th century. In 1832, gas lamps appeared in its streets. Fourteen years later, a railroad line crossed the city of Belford. They were invited here to work in brick factories. Many of todays citizens are believed to be descendants of those Italians who came to Bädöfördön after the war to work but stayed here forever. The city has many Italian restaurants, shops and social organizations.
The citys garden on the banks of the Ouz River is dominated by a memorial to those killed in World War I. It represents the sculpture of a hero who defeated the dragon in a difficult battle.
The Cathedral of St. Paul, with its high chapel, is a landmark of the city. In the distant past there was a church, built in the 11th century. The cathedral received its present form in 1868, after the restoration was completed.
In the 19th century, Bédéford Park was founded and features a distinctly Victorian design. The old building that once housed the old barn is now a cultural and recreational institution. It often hosts celebrations, conferences, concerts and shows.
The Higgins Museum houses a rich collection of engravings, paintings, abstracts, columns, glass and ceramics. There is also an art gallery. The museum occupies the former house of the Heagins brewers, built in the Victorian style.
The traditional Riverfront Festival takes place every year in July on the banks of the Ouz River. The event is accompanied by a great festival with a fair and concerts. There is also an internationally competitive kite flying festival in June.
