It was named after the historic lighthouse lights that erupted from the top of the Fishkill Mountains to alert the Continental Army of British troop movements. Originally an industrial city on the banks of the Hudson, Beacon experienced a renaissance that began in 2003 with the emergence of Dia Beacon, one of the premier contemporary art museums in the States.
