Bismarck, ND

Overall Score

3.9

Bismarck – the capital of North Dakota and the second largest city in the state. It was located in the central part of the region on the Great Frontier, bisected by the Missouri River.

Bismarck was home to the Mandan tribes. These Indians were the only ones in the region to practice farming, which gave rise to a lot of theories about the connection of the Mandans with the Vikings. Officially, the first Whites to appear here were considered to be the members of the Lluis and Clarke expeditions. In 1805, the expedition passed through Missouri on the territory of Beissemark.

The village that came into being on the site of the repopulation did not appear until 1872 and was called Edwinwithon. However, a short time later it was decided to change the name of the town in honor of the German «iron »c cossack, in order to attract German investors and German investments. Today, about two-thirds of the population of Bismarck are German immigrants. It became the capital of the Dakota area in 1883 and, in 1893, the capital of North Dakota.

Tourist infrastructure is mainly represented by parks. The most famous of these is the Port of Abraham Lincoln. It includes the renovation of the camp of the Sío warriors, as well as the renovation of the Mandarin village. There is a museum on the grounds of the park.
