Clarksville, TN

Overall Score

3.5

The city of Clarksville is on the north side of Tennessee, in the boro (district) of Montenegro. The city lies at the mouth of the Camembert River at the mouth of the Red River.

The prehistoric settlement of the county began 11,000 years ago. At least the oldest human traces in these places point to this age. The Jews were occupied by the Masques and the Cherokees in the immediate vicinity. They were forced to leave their land in the late 18th century and migrate to the West by the so-called Trail of Tears. Two decades earlier, the Ernando de Soto Expedition had been there, but it had no significant impact on the lives of the indigenous peoples. The original colonization did not begin until the 18th century.

Circleville was founded in 1780 on the site of a French trading station by settlers from the eastern Tennessee area. The village was named in honor of American Revolutionary War hero George R. Clarke. Clarke. In 1785, Clarksville was the first township in Tennessee to receive city rights. Before the Civil War, the citys economy was focused on the production and sale of agricultural products. In modern day Clarksville, there is a large industrial machinery and chemical industry. Not far from the city is the U.S. Air Force base & ²quo;Ft. Campbell; Clarksvilles largest tourist destination.

The city has enough interesting places to generate a tourism & ²quo;appetite. There are some remarkable parks in Clarksville, with the Dendrarium and Port Royale Park standing out. Not far from Clarksville is the Danubar Caves complex (13 kilometers of underground caves), surrounded by a wildlife park.

The architectural landmarks include the railway station & Élys Ein Ein» (1901), the old Ryngold Mill (1810), and the County Courthouse. The most significant cultural attractions are the Roxy Theater, the museum, and the Cultural Center in the former courthouse. A museum under an open sky, where a typical Tennessee village of the late 18th & early 19th century has been reconstructed, is now open to the public near Southsaida (the suburb of Clarksville).
