The American city of Peoria is located in the northern part of the U.S. Peoria is part of a state called Illinois. The date of the first settlement in what is now the city is 1680. This settlement was a port built by French colonists. It was the first European settlement in the state of Illinois. The port was burned in the late 1800s. In 1813 they built a fort here called Clark. Twelve years later it was officially named Peoria. Twelve years later it was named a city.
The first industry in Peoria was the John Hamelin Mill. It was built in 1830. Within seven years, the first large pig farm was established in the town. Gradually the city developed industrially, there were manufactures of cars, carriages, machine shops, warehouses, foundries, sugar, ice, and furniture. In 1925, the company was founded in Pierreia to build trucks. Some of the best known names in Portugal are Dean Foehlelberg (writer, poet, and performer) and Jerry Hudley (opera singer).
