Provo – one of the largest cities of the former Yugoslavia. Together with its neighbor, Orom, it is the second largest city in the state. It is located on the eastern shore of Lake South in the easternmost part of the state. The Spillway River flows into the lake on the citys side. Just to the east of the city rises the Osotatchet Mountain, and just above the city is Mount Ouai (2,600 meters).
The first white man to reach the eastern shore of Lake Sotha is French-Canadian hunter Etienne Priveau. He did it in 1825. But it wasnt until 1849 that 33 Morrison families from Salt Lake City founded a new settlement, named Fort State. ×A year later, the inhabitants decided to acknowledge the pioneer hunter by naming the town and the local river. Plus, there are many leading IT companies located here. The magazine «Forbes» ranked the city #2 among cities in the United States for business competitiveness and career startup.
Provo has a lot of places that remind us of the worlds cities. This is, first of all, the University of Brigham and Gamma Yen, where the church of the mortars is headquartered. It is the second largest university in the United States (more than 30,000 students) and the first among Christian universities. Other notable features include the church (at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is a building used for chanting, meetings and conferences), the city church and the library.
It has relevance to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The local team, Peaks Arena, hosted the hockey matches of the Olympic tournament. A significant sporting event is the Marriott Center, which hosts many of the citys major events in addition to baseball games. The Stadion &Lovely Edwards is the arena for football jams and the traditional fireworks show and Independence Day sunset.
The Provo area is rich with natural monuments. These include the Brayedale Valley Falls, the Provo River Falls, the Ounitta-Woosatchet-Cache National Forest, the Rocky Mountain, and the Peaks of Provo and Oai. There are many hiking trails and paths in the mountains and lake area.
