Baltimore, MD

ÃœBaltimore is located in the northeastern part of Maryland, where the Patapaca River empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The division of the city into upper and lower is literal: one part of the land is at an altitude of 150 meters on the Piedmont Plateau, and the other part is on the Atlantean Plain on the level of the sea.

The history of these places dates back to the 18th century. The small village, fortunate for the ports location, became a city in 1729. The successful beginning of Baltimores development did not protect it from the problems that followed. Today, the city has a relatively low standard of living by American standards. About a quarter of those living there are below the poverty line. Many people have left their homes in the last few decades. The remaining population is predominantly black. Most of them have a high school education.

The reasons for the decline lie in the lowering of the importance of shipping. As a result, there have been fewer jobs in the steel industry and in the shipbuilding industry. These are the areas that were the backbone of the economy of Baltimore in the late 20th century

Economic and social issues have affected the appearance of the city. The western and eastern neighborhoods are notoriously crime-ridden. With its dilapidated houses, boarded-up windows, and garbage in the streets, Birmingham looks more like some eastern European city in a period of reconstruction than a modern American megalopolis.

This contrast is made all the more remarkable by a trip to the citys center: the Inner Harbor. ×The marvelous view of the harbor with the ships, the modern buildings around the harbor, the varied crowd of tourists – it all looks like a window to a different world.

Besides popular attractions like the National Aquarium; the Oriole Par ballpark; the Baltimore Basilica; and the Washington Memorial, there is the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Baltimore. The talented American writers life is linked to this city. A visit to the house where the author of the poems lived makes it clear where Poe drew the grimness of his stories from.

You have to go to the Lexington Market and sample the citys best crab cakes – the local delicatessen made from the meat of the blue crabs that are only found here.

When you go to Balytimore, you can count on a great experience. Though its residents are trying to move on to new developmental trends, for now the place retains an unforgettable port town vibe.

In the meantime, its a place with an unforgettable port town vibe.
