Beaverton is a city located in the northwestern United States in the Tuelatin River Valley, 11 kilometers from Portland, Washington County, Oregon.

According to the 2010 census, the city’s population is 89,803 people. It is the sixth most populous city in the state. In the same year, Beaverton was named by Money magazine as one of the one hundred “best places to live” among small cities in the United States.

Along with Hillsborough, Beaverton is one of the economic centers of Washington County, with headquarters and factories of numerous corporations in various industries.

According to Geographic Names of Oregon, Beaverton gets its name from the proximity of a large number of beaver dams.

Beaverton is home to the headquarters of Nike, one of the world’s leading sporting goods retailers. Beaverton is part of the Silicon Forest high-tech district, a cluster of high-tech companies located in the Portland area (the corridor between Beaverton and Hillsborough in northwest Oregon) and in southwest Washington state.
