Bridgeport, one of the largest cities in the state, grew out of a small, old-fashioned fishing village. Founded in the early 19th century on the Long Island coast, it was quickly transformed into an important link in trade and commerce between ports and major cities in the country. In the beginning of the 20th century, it was home to casting and machine factories, and operated workshops for manufacturing compartments, locks, and sewing machines. The fishing industry prospered and the fishing trade was active. At that time, Barrage Port was known as a railroad station. It was also connected to New York by rail.

By the 1970s, the city had become a major industrial center. Companies specialized in guns, ammunition, and household chemicals operated here. At the same time, electrical, aviation and construction industries were developing at the same time. And now Bridgesport continues to develop as an industrial center. The main base of the local economy is the military, machine building, electrical engineering, and metal processing industries. Universities and colleges are open. The cold winter and warm summer seasons are due to the geographic location of the city at the junction of the humid continental and humid subtropical climates.

Rare animals are found in the Beardsley Park in the city. It provides a wildlife-friendly environment that is most typical of local wildlife.
