Carson City, NV

Carcion City is the capital of Nova Scotia and is an independent city, not a county. It is located to the west of the city, not far from the border with California and Lake Tahoe in the High River Valley. There are several smaller lakes in the vicinity.

The area of the city was the original home of the Ouasho Indians. The «White» appeared here in 1843, when John Freemonts research expedition wandered into the area. The river flowing through the region was named Carson &ndash for one of the explorers, and the valley on which the town later sprang – Orlino.

Until 1858, the valley was home to a single lonely town. A businessman, Abraham Currier, bought the land in the valley and laid out the settlement with the expectation that it would eventually become the capital of Nevada, even setting up a site for the capital. In 1864, what Curry had seen happened happened. A few years earlier, gold and silver mines had been discovered in the area of Carson City, which was the reason for the rapid growth of the city. At one time it even hosted a branch of the U.S. Monetary Court.

Modern Carson City positions itself as one of the largest capital cities in the United States. Tourists are drawn to the city primarily by its natural attractions. The surrounding countryside of Sierra Nevada has been frequented by extremals (in winter – skiers), and the shores of Lake Tahoe are a haven for beach lovers. There are several national parks in the neighborhood of Carson City that have preserved patches of untouched nature. The city itself has all the infrastructure needed for recreation. The Mills Park, with its narrow-gauge railroad, stands out in particular.
