Charleston, SC

Overall Score

In the southeast of the state lies the town of Charlemont, which occupies an area on a small flatland between the mouths of the two rivers, the Coopers and the Eschleys. It has the status of an administrative district and is a major port on the Atlantic coast. The citys terrain includes water resources in addition to dry land. The area is influenced by a temperate climate with hot, wet summers and mild winters. Gardening takes place all year long. The highest summer temperature ever recorded was in 1985, when it reached +40 degrees Celsius. The threat to the population is posed by hurricanes. One of them caused major damage in the fall of 1989, when most buildings were damaged.

Charlestons history began in 1670, when the first English settlement, named “City of Charles”, was founded, given to it in honor of the then-adjacent British king. Ten years later, they decided to move it to its new location, where it is now. Its economy in those days was based on the trading of commodities and rice, which thrived and brought in a lot of money. Almost until mid-1775, the city was the seat of the State of Southern Carolina. From the beginning of the 19th century through the middle of the century, the oldest city in the country was an architectural attraction. Its narrow streets are reminiscent of old English settlements. ×Charleston delights with the plethora of palm trees growing in each neighborhood, the beaches, the beautiful, picturesque islands, and the traditional cuisine of small restaurants whose menus offer a variety of seafood dishes. The citys coastline is actually divided into several parts. In one, the warehouses are elevated and there are boat docks; in the other, the waterfront, with its beautiful picturesque fountains, steps, and tree-lined avenues, stretches out into the waterfront. The artistic galleries are notable for the French Quarter, which is located in the old part of the city, where the first buildings of the future were built in the 17th century.
