Fairfield, CA

Overall Score

3.7

Fairfield, located between Sacramento and Saint François, is the administrative center of the district of Solano. The name was given to the settlement by its founder, Captain Robert Worman. He decided to name it after his hometown of Fairfield, in Connecticut. Nearby are the cities of Easton, Redding, and Oysterport. In 2006, it was named the best place to live in the North-East of the United States.

The colonial period in the area began with the development of the present city and its environs for the purpose of creating a farming community. For a long time, farms have flourished, bringing significant income to the community. The economic situation changed during World War I. The city became the center for the production of ammunition. Its population grew rapidly. They built low-cost houses to avoid the housing crisis. The city prospered even during the Great Depression. Today, Fairfield is an industrial city with a number of industries, including those that produce soft drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, and household chemicals.
